About

Life, Death, and Comedy is a space for deep reflection—and occasional holy laughter. It lives at the intersection of contemplative practice, existential psychotherapy, and spiritual storytelling.

Here, you’ll find essays, poetic meditations, and stories that sit with the big questions:
What does it mean to be alive?
How do we suffer well?
Where does healing begin?
And why is it all so absurdly beautiful?

Some posts wander like parables. Others sit still like prayers. But all of them try to hold what life actually feels like—complex, sacred, and often a little ridiculous.

If you’ve ever cried during a podcast, laughed during a eulogy, or felt strangely comforted by a line of poetry you couldn’t quite explain, you’re in the right place.

Bio

I'm Daniel Gutierrez—a professor, licensed professional counselor, and contemplative guide. I study mental health treatment strategies, spirituality, and the role of contemplation in healing.

In addition to my academic work, I offer private spiritual direction, and I’m a graduate of the CAC’s Living School. I’m also a fellow of the American Counseling Association and a longtime martial artist (which, weirdly, feels related to all of this).

I believe the work of healing is not about fixing ourselves—but about learning how to be here, fully. This newsletter is one way I try to practice that.
